“The older I get, the less I know, the more I ask my mom”

Not many people could turn comedic impressions of their family into the basis of a genuinely funny (and heartfelt) web-series, but back in 2007 comedienne Maria Bamford did just that.

The self titled Maria Bamford Show was a unique mix of comedy with an examination of her family dynamic, shown on the now defunct Super Deluxe website. Bamford would play numerous members of her own family throughout the series. The shoe-string budget 20 episode run built a cult following, My Damn Channel executives were clearly amongst the fans, as they’re bringing 70 year old Marilynn Bamford back.

If you were a fan of the original show you’ll be pleased to know it has undertaken a serious makeover, gone is the askew aspect ratio and grainy visuals and in its places bright, beautiful and fullscreen HD. There’s not a lot to go on in the 45 second teaser but the premise and tone are well established. Maria dials back the multiple roles and just stars as her mother and occasionally herself to cue in the questions. The format has also been updated to be more interactive; asking viewers to send in questions for Marilynn to answer.

As she’s “one of the busiest senior citizens on the planet” this kooky pensioner is always in the middle of doing something when Maria is filming her. The premise might be nothing new but the strength of the character is the unique selling point here. It’s great to see Bamford back online in a suitable vehicle for her talents.

The series starts exclusively on Blip May 30 and you can see the teaser trailer below, we’ll be bringing you a full review of the first episode shortly after its premiere.
