The prestigious Raindance Film Festival has announced in a press statement today that it will be holding the first ever UK independent web film festival this year.

Taking place between the 28th and 29th September (during the Raindance Film Festival itself) online submission is now open, with a £20 submission fee per series. Episodes must be 12 minutes or shorter, and have been released for public viewing AFTER January 1st 2012.

From their press release:

The internet has created so many new opportunities for independent filmmakers, and web series have become the new short form content that creatives and studio executives have started looking at in order to find the next generation of filmmakers.

Writers, directors, producers and actors are all making their own web series and on the way learning the essential skills of cultivating a loyal audience for their shows.

Raindance is looking for some of the best independent web series for our inaugural London WebFest. The weekend will feature screenings of web series episodes as well as some educational and informative panels which when alongside the Raindance’s feature film and shorts programmes means London will be the place to be in September.
